Changes to my study programme

Being on this university it's a very strange thing. Almost everybody thinks that it's education and it's infrastructure are excellent. I used to think that too, but when you are into this, the reality it's very different. I know that the theme of funding is very complex, but University of Chile has a lot of aspects to improve.

One of them is curriculum map. I think that this institute has the necessity to modernize the subjects and the knowledge that it offers. Without a doubt the written journalism is very important, but with the social media revolution the skills that we need to communicate are getting bigger. Television, radio, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are more important than ever, so we have to adapt to this new digital language, and this institute too.

The second, are the green areas. I've never been in this campus until this year, and my thoughts were that this place would be very respectful with the trees, birds and biodiversity. But the reality is cruel and this place is becoming in a "cement jungle", which it makes me very sad. Students needs grass, and no car parks.

I know that we the students have a lot of demands, but I think that we can do something great for this university only with respectful meetings with the autothorities of this enormous institution.

An Artist you love: Virginia Woolf

The twentieth century was a very good time for literature. Even when the global context was very complex, with for example, the two world wars and the Cold War, the artists worked very hard to express themselves and to leave in testimony the difficult times which the humanity was going through. There were born a lot of movementes like the hippies, the punkies and the feminists.

An incredible writter inspired this last movement, and her name was Virginia Woolf. She was born in in January 1989, in London, and since then, she is still one of the most influential woman on earth. With books like A Room of One's Own, Mrs. Dalloway and To the Lighthouse she became one of the greatest writters of the history, and thanks to her courage and rebelliousness she is still an inspiration
for million and million people around the world.

Her legacy is invaluable. In a time when woman were oppressed and censored, she wrote a lot of novels and essays to empower women with the art and the power of letters. Since I know her (the first time I read her I was 13) she became a truly idol to me.

I think everybody should read Virginia Woolf. Her work is more current than ever. We must know her, read her, and learn from her pain and her experience.

Current Issues: Raúl Zurita

One of my favorite types of literature is Poetry. I used to read a lot, but since I'm in University I don't read very often. Chile is recognised globally by it's poetess, and most of my favorite are from here, like Nicanor Parra and Gabriela Mistral.

Now, I want to write about Raúl Zurita, a Chilean poet winner of Literature National Award. He published a long poem about Camilo Catrillanca, a Mapuche killed by Carabineros. The poem were published on Facebook and had a lot of controversy and dissemination, specially on social media.

The issue of the poem were the murderer of a Mapuche, the react of the authorities and the serious situation of the police force of the country. I think it's important that the artists and the literature take part of what happens in a society, because they are the voice of who has not. The art has an a very important position.

The poem was an artistic form to confront the President. And I am sure that it will inspire so many to demand explanations to the government for this crime. For example, the face of Camilo Catrillanca were project in Baquedano inspired by his verse "QUE SU ROSTRO DE 24 AÑOS CUBRA EL HORIZONTE".

Post Graduate Studies

All of my life I've been absolutely sure about what I was going to study. Since I was a kid I thought about Journalism. I read a lot of magazines and books, so I think the decision to study that were so natural.

Now I have to take another decision about my future. Post Graduate studies are very important in a proffesional, so it's almost required to have at least, one. I don't know what is my direction in the journalism yet, but I think it's strategic communication or social communication.

They are my options because I think that I am great in that areas, and because they are fun to work with, at least for me. I confess that I am not very informed about other Post Graduate studies, but they are my options for the moment.

I know that it's an important decision, but for the moment, I'm not very worried about it. I think in the next years I will learn more about this theme.

My Future Job

I went trough very difficult times a few months ago because I wasn't very decided about my future. But in February, I took one of the most important decisions of my life: the career of Journalism.

Now that I am at University, I started to think about my future job. It's difficult too because I like almost all of the areas of my career, but I think I would like to work in television or radio. I would choose those areas because they are the most popular platforms in the audience, so it would be fun stay in contact with a lot of people.

I think the television is on crisis, so I think I would give new perspectives about this new age of communications in this "Digital Era".

So, even when I'm not absolutely sure, radio and television are my favorite mass media. It would be very fun work there.

R.I.P Dear Turtle

Troughout my life I've had a lot of different pets. My mother has always loved them, so she gave me her love and passion for animals. We very often rescue dogs from the streets, fed them, or just, stroke them. In my 19 years of existence, we've had rabbits, hamsters, dogs, different types of birds and… turtles.

I know, it's horrible, but I don't remember her name. Since this happened when I was 8, I only remember certain things, like she was very cute, big and restless. She was my first turtle, and she managed to stay with us for like two years. At that moment, in the house were living my mother, my father, my sister, my two dogs, the turtle and I.

But one day, when I came back from the school, the tragedy happened. My mother was acting very strange, so I asked her what the hell was happening, and then, she told me the horrible thing that happened minutes ago: my dog, Almendra, killed the turtle in an attempt to eat her.

So, this post is for her... I'm so sorry, Nameless Turtle. Hope you are in the paradise of pets. You deserve it.

The problem of Bolsonaro

Latinoamerica has always been a very particular place. In politics, “Left” and “Right” (or Liberals and Conservatives) always compete in equal conditions. I mean, it’s very umpredictable which side will govern a country in a certain time.

In Brasil, is almost obvious that the ultra-conservative candidate for President, Jair Bolsonaro, will win the elections this month. Bolsonaro is a dangerous politician for a lot of things. He’s an oppenly Pinochet’s dictatorship supporter, and openly homophobic and misogynistic.

The risk of Bolsonaro is not only his ultra-conservative proposals, but his evident fascism. The problem is not that he is a ‘right’ symphatizer, every person has the freedom to choose their political view. The problem is that this politician is not respectful with all of the components in a society, and the respect for all of the majorities and minorities it’s something essential.

I admit it, I’m very scared for this situation. But, after all, this is the famous ‘democracy’, and we must respect the decisions of the people who vote for their political representatives in the government.
